Homemade Vanilla Syrup

The recipe people still message me about. Turbinado sugar gives it a deeper, almost caramelized flavor that white sugar can't do. I put it in iced lattes, cold brew, shaken espressos, matcha, and even drizzle it over vanilla ice cream.

Makes
20-25 servings
Time
10 minutes
Difficulty
Easy
Ingredients
  • 2 cups turbinado sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 big tablespoon of vanilla bean paste
  • A pinch of salt
Instructions
  1. Add the sugar and water to a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Bring to a boil for the sugar to dissolve.
  2. Take the pot off the heat. Add the vanilla bean paste and a pinch of salt. The salt sounds weird but it rounds everything out and makes the vanilla taste even more like vanilla.
  3. Give it a good stir and let it cool before transferring to a bottle or jar.
  4. Pour a splash into your iced latte, cold brew, shaken espresso, or matcha. Also great drizzled over vanilla ice cream. Keeps in the fridge for about a month.
Pro tip
Always add the vanilla bean paste after the syrup comes off the heat. If you stir it in while the pan is still hot, the heat can cook off the flavor.
