Caramelized Banana Syrup
Ingredients:
- 2 ripe bananas, sliced
- 3 tbsp butter
- 1 cup sugar (I used turbinado)
- 1 tbsp molasses (skip this If you youse brown sugar)
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- pinch of salt
- tsp vanilla extract
Instructions:
1. Start by slicing the bananas into thin pieces. Melt the butter in a saucepan, and sauté the banana slices for about 3-4 minutes over medium heat.
2. Once the bananas start to soften, add the sugar and molasses. Stir everything well to combine, and continue cooking for another 5 minutes. It should smell amazing at this point—like you’ve been baking all day.
3. Next, add the cinnamon and salt, stir briefly, and remove the saucepan from the heat. Let the mixture cool slightly.
4. Once the mixture is no longer steaming hot, stir in the vanilla extract.
5. Blend everything with an immersion blender (or carefully transfer it into a regular blender) until you get a smooth, caramel-like syrup.
Let the syrup cool completely before using—it thickens up even more as it cools. But I would store In a mason jar since thicken sauces have a hard time flowing out of a glass syrup container.
How to Use
- Iced Latte: Add a tablespoon or two of banana syrup to your iced latte, then top with milk. Finish it off with banana cold foam if you’re feeling fancy.
- Cold Brew: Make a caramelized banana cold foam by frothing syrup with heavy cream and oat milk, then pour it over cold brew for the perfect creamy texture.
- Espresso Drinks: Stir a spoonful directly into espresso shots before topping with steamed milk for a rich banana latte.
- Banana Matcha Latte: Shake matcha powder, banana syrup, and water together until smooth, then pour over milk and ice for a creamy, banana-forward matcha.
- Pancakes or Waffles: Use as a syrup alternative with a caramelized banana twist—perfect if you want something a bit more interesting than traditional syrup.
- Ice Cream Topping: Drizzle warm caramelized banana syrup over vanilla ice cream for a quick, amazing dessert.
